SURROUNDINGS

Novi VinodolskiNovi Vinodolski lies on a steep rock above the sea, and the view from the south, from the sea side leaves everyone breathless with admiration. The view of that part of the town reminds of the legend about the town "built by fairies". The streets and squares remain hidden to the eye and rows of houses and roofs seem to be growing out of each other. Only the 36-metres high white bell-tower, the simbol and "lighthouse" of Novi rises above that cluster of white facades and red roofs. In the most part, particulary from the south, Novi is surrounded with the blue of the sea, wich is broken only by the sight of a small rocky islet San Marino, wich is only 205 m away from the coast. Going soutward, at the distance of about 8 to 10 km, the Vinodol channel is closed with greyish rocky shores of the island of Krk, swept by wind and pounded by waves, on the tops of which only bare-necked eagles-vultures live.

On the coast, 22 km southeast of Novi Vinodolski lies the old town of Senj, once a well-known outlaw's refuge, with the famous Nehaj tower from which the outlaws controlled the channel and the Senj passage.

PovileWest of Novi Vinodolski spreads the Karst valley Vinodol, which got its name after vast vineyards.
Asphalt road which via Ogulin runs north to continental parts, brings us in only 15 minutes to the region of high evergreen and decidious woods, where a visitors can shade and refreshment on the slopes of wooded Kapela. Woodland settlements Lukovo, Breze and Krmpote are suitable destinations for one-day trips, because they all are surrounding with lovely mountain pastures and clearings and are quite close to the coast.

Going along Adriatic tourist road towards the south, only 2 km away from Novi Vinoolski lies POVILE. Pleasant walk along the shore brings us to a quiet oasis of camping sites in pine wood, a tourist settlement and bungalows, which together with private houses and villas, restaurants and inns offer everything a holiday-maker may wish for.

KlenovicaFurther south, 9 km from Novi Vinodolski lies former fishermen's village, today lively tourist resort, KLENOVICA. However fishing is not completely forgotten here and every tourist is welcome to give it a try.
